Boost Your Writing Consistency with This Handy Tool

Chapter 1: The Journey to 1000 Followers

Recently, I achieved a milestone of 1000 followers in just two months. This isn’t meant to boast, nor do I have a step-by-step guide for others to replicate my success. Each writer’s journey is unique, and what works for one person may not suit another.

However, I did create a spreadsheet template that has greatly assisted me in maintaining consistency, productivity, and creativity in my writing endeavors. Over the last year, I’ve managed to write approximately 200 articles. While that might sound impressive to some, I must admit that many of them are far from perfect.

My motivation for writing wasn’t monetary gain or follower counts; it stemmed from a desire to improve my craft and my passion for writing. The key takeaway from my experiences is that maintaining a consistent writing practice will inevitably lead to improvement, even if it's just a small amount each time.

The first video titled "How to Create a Consistent Writing Routine" provides valuable insights on establishing a writing routine that works for you.

Section 1.1: Overcoming Writer's Block

Many writers struggle with knowing how to start or often delay their writing sessions. To tackle this issue, I developed a spreadsheet divided into three key sections:

  1. Idea Board

Here, I jot down potential titles for future articles. I typically start my writing process with the title since it’s the first thing readers notice. Throughout the week, I compile numerous titles and dedicate 1-2 days to writing the most significant ones.

  2. Categorization of Titles

I organize my titles into three groups:

    • Essential Titles: Articles I prioritize writing as soon as possible.
    • Interesting Titles: Topics that pique my interest, which I’ll write when I complete the essentials or need a break.
    • Experimental Ideas: Titles related to controversial subjects or new themes I wish to explore.

Having all my ideas consolidated in one location has proven immensely beneficial for my creative process.

Section 1.2: Tracking Progress

The next part of my spreadsheet is the Published Sheet, where I manually document each article I publish. This includes the article's title, publication date, views, reading time, earnings, topics, tags, and word count.

This practice gives me insight into what resonates with my audience and what doesn’t. It's essential to remember that while satisfying your readers is important, writing about topics you are passionate about is equally vital. Sticking only to what has previously succeeded can stifle your growth as a writer and bore your audience.

By using this sheet, I can experiment with my writing style and gauge reader preferences. For instance, if I notice that certain articles perform better due to my tone, I can replicate that in future pieces.

Chapter 2: The Power of Planning

The second video, "How to Create a Consistent Writing Habit," delves into the importance of establishing a writing habit and offers practical tips to help you stay on track.

Section 2.1: The Calendar Sheet

The final component of my spreadsheet is the Calendar Sheet, which features a dynamic calendar and to-do list. Research indicates that setting clear, attainable goals and tracking them can significantly enhance productivity.

Our minds thrive on completing tasks, and I found that maintaining a weekly to-do list with specific objectives, reviewed daily, helps me remain consistent in my writing. For example, I’ll schedule tasks like “Write the article on Topic B at this time.”

Section 2.2: Creating Your Template

You can certainly create a similar template to enhance your organization, consistency, and productivity. I have made my version available on Gumroad, which includes over 220 article ideas to inspire you or serve as writing exercises.

Ultimately, if you commit to writing every day, you will witness improvement in your skills. I hope this article has been helpful.
